Sweden has the oldest law in the world governing the right of public access to government materials, enacted in 1766. There are currently a few restrictions laid out in the Secrecy Act of 1980, but the archives remain largely accessible.

Procedures
Most of the documents created before 1952 reside at the National Archives and those created after that date are found at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Researchers may visit the archives directly or write ahead of time.
