Legislation
Federal Government documents, including those of the South African Department of Foreign Affairs, are deposited at the National Archives. The National Archives and Records Service of South Africa Act of 1996 stipulates that any member of the public has a right of access to archives that are older than twenty years. Researchers may apply in writing, under the Promotion of Access to Information Act of 2000, to access documents under 20 years old.

Researchers may visit the Archives directly and apply for an admission card or contact the Archives before visiting.
