4728. There follows translation of note just received from Bidault answering mine of August 11 which enclosed a statement adopted by the three powers at Potsdam Conference concerning trial of war criminals:
“Answering your communication of August second (first?) pertaining to major war criminals whose crimes cannot be exactly limited to a certain area, [I have the honor to inform you that the Provisional Govt of the French Republic,] [stating the desire of the American, British and Soviet Govts to bring about the trial of the guilty parties as soon as possible,]2 associates itself with the declaration of the three Govts.
I would appreciate your being kind enough to so inform your Govt”.
