230. Both MEA (Dutt) and UK HC (Garner)1 were informed today that Emb has received info from Tibet contacts that possibility [Page 1753] existed rep Dalai Lama might in near future approach GOI authorities in re asylum for Dalai Lama India notwithstanding press reports his intention return Lhasa.
Emb impression was that Dalai Lama and family apprehensive his safety in event return Lhasa which it seemed he was being pressed to do by many advisors who favored attempt come to terms with Chinese Commies.
